Charlie Townsend, PE, was recently recognized as the New Professional Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). This recognition highlights Charlie’s remarkable contributions to the engineering profession and his community during the formative stages of his career. This award was presented this August at the 2024 NSPE Conference in Raleigh, NC, an event that brought together licensed professional engineers to network and share insights on diverse engineering topics related to creating, maintaining, and renewing infrastructure that enhances revitalization and economic competitiveness.

As a Land Development Team Leader at VHB, Charlie works with clients across the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, providing innovative site/civil design and permitting solutions. With more than a decade of experience in the professional engineering field, Charlie is committed to giving back to his community and providing mentorship, especially through guest lecturing, his involvement in the NC State Engineering Foundation, and working with the North Carolina Future City competition.

Since joining VHB’s Raleigh office in 2022, Charlie has grown within his Land Development team and has contributed to numerous game-changing projects, including the North Carolina State University Integrative Sciences Building, that create significant economic and humanitarian impacts.

“We are grateful to have Charlie and all of his meaningful contributions to our team in Raleigh over the past two years,” said Reggie Scales, Managing Director, Raleigh. “Our clients trust Charlie and his ability to advance projects with care and keeping the community’s needs at the forefront of recommended solutions.”
